Weekly Report 24/11/2017

Club Sailing

The frostbite series continued last sunday morning with two races run by PRO Dan Jackson, both races took place over port triangles. Race 1 was in a light northerly with a heavy right hand shift just after the race had begun. Race 1 was won by Peter in the scorpion followed by Mike then Jaime in their ospreys, they were followed up by Jon in his osprey and Dyfan in his new RS Aero.

Race 2 was a light south easterly with a similar shift to race 1, slightly shorter race of 2 laps won by Peter followed by Mike then Jon with Dyfan in 4th place. Jaime and his crew retired from the race due to prior commitments.

 Club Dinner

It was a busy week end last week for the Sailing Club. The annual Dinner Dance and prize giving was held on the Friday evening at the Giltar Hotel, Tenby. A gathering of over 80 members enjoyed a convivial evening with a sit down meal, presentations and then dancing. Topped off for the enthusiastic with a late night at the club!  Trophies for the 2017 seasons competitions were presented; in the Cruiser fleet the overall champion was Steve Lewis and his crew in Aries; in the dinghy fleet the overall champions were Peter Rose and Igor Otohal in the Scorpion. Well done to each. Many other trophies were presented for the shorter series/cups including the capsize trophy, which this year was secured by the experienced Blake Shaw and Terry Evans turning over their inflatable on the way out to their cruiser. The first time that trophy has been won by a vessel with no mast!

The following Saturday saw a group of members enjoying the rugby on the big screen in the club during the afternoon and then the presentation of a cheque to the local Rotary Club as a contribution to their charitable funds.

Later in the evening the Club held its AGM. Nathan Spiller was elected Commodore with various other changes in personnel and newcomers to the Committee with this the club is set for the new year. Among the changes of personnel was Ted Lewis who served as commodore for the last 2 seasons and as press officer for more years than he cares to mention. We thank retiring committee members for their hard work in helping running Tenby Sailing Club.
