Club Sailing

A surprisingly warm morning was the setting for the two frostbite races this Sunday. The two races were run by PRO Jaime Bohata assisted by Lewis James and Ioan, the course was set over a port hand triangle. Jaime chose a slightly different course to normal starting at the windward mark with a run down to the gybe mark, followed by a fair reach to the leeward mark, finally a beat back up to the windward mark. This meant it was spinnakers on the start line, which was sure to cause much entertainment on the PRO rib.

Race 1 was a force 2 north westerly with occasional force 3 gusts, 3 boats contested this first race with some fierce racing between the two ospreys. Carwyn and Huw had their first osprey experience as a team, while Peter joined John in his osprey. Over the course of the race there were many changes of places between the two ospreys in what was seemly a tight race, in the end Carwyn crossed the line first followed by John in his osprey a few seconds later. But after the handicaps had been worked out, John Morris in the laser had managed to surpass both ospreys, with the results of race 1 standing with 1st John Morris followed by Carwyn and John. That really does show that match racing another boat without watching the competition is a bad idea.

Race 2 was conducted over the same course with Igor joining in his laser, during the race both ospreys had spinnaker issues with Carwyn getting his sheet caught under his bow. The last leg was very close between all the boats. the ospreys finished within seconds of each other, followed closely by the lasers. But yet again the ospreys couldn't keep pace with John Morris on handicap, the results of race 2 were John M then John and Carwyn in the ospreys followed by Igor in his laser.

Racing continues next week, let's hope we get more close boat on boat action.

The Junior Christmas party last Friday was a great success with youngsters, parents and instructors enjoying games, a quiz, a fantastic balloon competition and a buffet with everyone joining in.
