Local Sailing Rules 2010

  1. Competitors should become familiar with and adopt the principles and practices of the RYA Racing Charter, which seeks to promote fair and enjoyable racing for all. (Printed at start of RYA Racing rules booklet.) (www.rya.org.uk/racing/charter)


  2. Racing will take place under the current ISAF rules of sailing, the prescriptions of the RYA, the appropriate class rules and local amendments displayed on the Club Notice Board.


  3. A motorboat is to be detailed to be in attendance during club racing unless the race Officer decides otherwise.


  4. All occupants of dinghies must wear an approved buoyancy aid at all times. (Alteration only at Sailing Captain's discretion). (This alters Rule 40)


  5. Racing will be Average lap racing where possible.


  6. Intention to Protests must be lodged with the PRO within 20 minutes of the last boat coming ashore.


  7. Boats may use paddles or other means of propulsion to clear the Harbour entrance (an imaginary line between the pier and the seaward side of Goscar Rock) even after the 4-minute signal.


  8. In conditions when engines are needed because of imminent danger of collision Rule 42 must apply. However the penalty can vary from "No penalty to Disqualification". A protest committee can decide the penalty for individual boats each one on its merits in relation to any advantage gained.


  9. For all series points will be awarded to the same helm/boat combination. Different combinations shall be scored separately. However a competitor may apply for dispensation so that points count for all series. Dispensation needs to be applied for before the race on the series entry form. A list of dispensations is listed on the entry form.
    Dispensations will not be awarded retrospectively.
    Dispensations to count as long as the main boat (indicated on entry form) is used for the majority of races started.
    This rule was altered on 10th May 2010.


  10. Where a trophy is not competed for on the advertised date it shall automatically be sailed for on the next available Sunday That does not have a trophy on it.


  11. Trophies are over two races with series ties resolved as per A8.1 in the RRS.


  12. If only one race is sailed on the specified day It will be a one race trophy.


  13. Each participating boat shall be insured with valid third-party insurance with a minimum cover of £1,000,000 per event.


  14. Every dinghy must have adequate buoyancy.


  15. Unless stated otherwise there is an overall time limit for Dinghies of 2-hours or 1-hour after the first boat finishes, whichever is the earlier. (This changes Rule 35)


  16. The Committee may make amendments or additions to these rules at any time. These must be displayed in the clubhouse for at least 7 days before taking effect.


  17. Target race duration time for Sunday is to aim for the boats to finish by 12:15 Wednesday evenings target time to be 55 minutes.


  18. The RYA Portsmouth Yardstick Scheme as set out in the Current YR2 will be used. For dinghies. Boats without Portsmouth Numbers published in the current YR2 will be allocated a number. Cruiser Handicaps will be reviewed once a boat has sailed 4 races by using the RYA YR2 Scheme Current Handicaps will be displayed on Club notice board.


  19. A minimum of two boats constitute a race.


  20. Unless stated otherwise, 50% of the races for any given series will count towards the overall results rounded to the greatest whole number; i.e. If 7 races sailed then 4 will count.


  21. Races sailed on a Friday are classed as weekday.


  22. Overall prizes will be awarded for the first six places.


  23. County regatta points to count toward overall season results.




Notes

  • The Super Saturday series will not count to the overall season points.


  • The Boxing Day race is part of the frostbite series.


  • The start/rescue rota will be displayed on the Club Notice Board. PRO will be awarded 3rd place points to count in all trophies except series with 3 races or less. For all other series Race Officer points will be awarded for an individual helm for a maximum of 10% of races sailed by the fleet.


  • The Club shall not be held responsible for any damage to or loss of property belonging to members, their guests or visitors nor will the Club accept any liability for personal injury sustained by members, their guests or visitors arising out of the use of club premises, the club boats (or any facilities provided by the club) or participation in any event organised by the club whether or not such damage or injury shall be occasioned by the neglect, default or negligence of them, the officers, committee members or servants of the Club. (The Club, in this rule means the Officers, Committee and members either collectively or severally).


  • The Committee may make amendments or additions to these rules at any time. These must be displayed in the clubhouse for at least 7 days before taking effect.
