NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS AT TENBY SAILING CLUB

Tenby Sailing Club has been staging National Dinghy Championships for nearly 40 years with at least one major class visiting each year. The venue is fully booked up to 2017 with the Enterprises (2012), Merlin Rockets (2013), Fireballs (2014), RS400s (2015), Fireflies (2016) and RS200s (2017). Other past championships include Scorpions, RS800s, Toppers, National 12s, Redwings and Ospreys, all expressing an interest to return to this superb venue.
Tenby is a very popular holiday resort in West Wales in the Pembrokeshire National Park offering an excellent range of accommodation (early booking is needed to get a place near the harbour). Typical journey time from the Severn Bridge is less than 2 hours with dual carriageway to within 15miles of Tenby.
The Clubhouse, with bar and catering, changing rooms, showers, storage, meeting room, is in the middle of the picturesque Harbour surrounded by the slipways, dinghy parks, beaches, accommodation, restaurants, pubs and town. Families and supporters will find they can be in the middle of the action just by going to the harbour beach or viewing the action from Castle Hill or relaxing on the Club balcony overlooking the harbour and launching area.
There is a very experienced race management team of club members (including two NROs) who make every effort to make the events a success on and off the water and to make everyone welcome. In 1999 Tenby SC was very proud to have won the prestigious RYA/RTYC 1840 Challenge Trophy for excellence in Event and Race Management.
The Race area is in sheltered Carmarthen Bay and is reached within minutes being off the North Bay side of Tenby. Launching can take place at all states of the tide with a hard sandy beach right down to low water. Courses are laid out as far as possible to minimize the shifts caused by the wind coming over the land mass and cliffs with dates to coincide with neap tides.
The Club is currently inviting bids for future championships with fleets from 55 to130 boats for 2018 to 2022.
