Pedestrianisation News

The Harbour Car Park will again be for Harbour Users only from 08.00 to 18.00 hrs probably from May 1st. Anyone who pays harbour dues either for a dinghy space or mooring will be able to purchase a permit to park at the harbour when using their craft. Please look for notices around Harbour. Vehicular access is allowed for everyone for loading and unloading.

It looks as if the concession to those with a permit to park at the harbour, allowing access to the harbour once during the pedestrianisation period (11.00 to 17.00 hrs during July and August) will be repeated. Cars will have to follow the park and ride bus along Crackwell Street.

Sail Training, 2005

As you may or may not have heard, the club has just made a further commitment to expanding our sail training capabilities with the recent acquisition of two RS Feva XL dinghies.

The RS Feva is an award winning design specifically aimed at introducing novices and youngsters to two-man dinghies. Having already sold over 900 boats since its introduction 2 years ago, RS have obviously found a winning formula. To further endorse this, the RYA has just formerly granted the class "Junior Recognised Status", which means that it will be incorporated in future national squad training programs. This should present some great opportunities for our improving youngsters.

The boats are 3.64m (12ft) long, with a 6.5m2 main sail, 2.1m2 jib, and a 7m2 asymmetric gennaker, which will no doubt provide much excitement once everyone has gained a bit of experience with the boats. Here are a couple of photos to whet the appetite!!

RS Fevas under sail.      RS Fevas close hauled.

Not only have we expanded our fleet, we have also been working to upgrade the existing club boats. We have purchased 4 much needed new sails for the Toppers, and will be carrying out the usual pre-season maintenance on all the club boats. We plan to have the 2 Fevas, 6 Toppers and 4 Optimists available for the start of the season.

This year's Wednesday night training sessions recommence on Wednesday 20th April at 17:30. The tide is in on the first evening, so not too far to pull the boats on that first day back on the water......always a good incentive in Tenby!

We are very keen to attract more members to the club, and will once again be holding our adult sail-training event. This has proven to be very successful in the past, and we are delighted that some previous participants are now real mainstays of the dinghy sailing scene.

Maintaining a vibrant junior and training section is essential for the future of the club, and we are determined to continue in the same vane as last season when we experienced a fantastic increase in the junior sailing activity. However, to sustain this growth takes a huge amount of dedication from our volunteer training officers, and we urgently request that parents, friends and members make themselves available to help out on Wednesday evenings. We understand that time is precious for everyone, so we propose to draw up a rota. "Many hands make light work", so please, please, please contact Blake, Mike or Steve a.s.a.p.
