The 1811 W. Couling Map of Tenby, showing the property of the Corporation.
This shows that part of the sluice basin, in front of Smithy Stores,
had been filled in to form South Wharf.
Sleeman's Stores had not been built.

Look for the following features:

  • The Sluice basin has been filled in at the eastern end to form South Wharf in front of Smithy Storehouse, marked 29 on the map.

  • The three storey building known as Sleeman's Stores is not yet built.

  • There is no wall on the town side of the basin at this time.

  • The Sluice has been labelled Wharf.

  • The Old Pier with St Julian's Chapel.
