Firstly, may I, on behalf of the club, wish you all a happy and prosperous New Year. A large turnout on Sunday, December 21, braved the strong conditions. Race officer, M. Williams, set a course in keeping with the conditions which certainly tested the skills of all who took part. Several capsizes took place, with gear failure forcing the retirement of two participants. The remainder finished very closely, with the pole position dependent on taking the relevant handicaps into account. Indeed, the final positions could not have been closer, with Rolly taking the top spot in a Topper! - Andrew Williams a close second in a Laser, followed by Alan Lambert in a Solo. The Boxing Day race, the last of the season, was shortened by race officer Terry Evans to take into account the very strong winds. I'm delighted to report that Andrew Williams survived the conditions to take the honours. Well done Andrew! Racing will resume towards the end of March - watch this space. Social programme: The club is open as usual at the weekend, with the darts series back in full swing next Friday, January 9th, when we are away to the Castle Inn, Manorbier. Saturday, January 17th - Mike and Deanna's Soup Frenzy. This event is back by popular request; don't miss an opportunity to taste superb food! There is a change to the social calendar published in the recently distributed newsletter. The Great Scalextric Challenge will now take place on Saturday, January 24th, and not on the 31st. Saturday, February 14th - St. Valentine's Dinner. Another opportunity to treat your loved ones to superb food in warm and convivial surroundings. There are further events planned, as per the newsletter - I am hoping to procure the services of the talented Greenhill Jazz Band in the near future. Watch this space. Subscriptions: It's that time of the year again. Would members please note that annual subscriptions are now due. Please contact membership secretary, Julia Dashfield, for further details. Finally, anyone wishing to join this warm and friendly club should contact any member for further details. We look forward to meeting you. GP14 |
