Dinghy sailing was again thwarted by adverse weather conditions, much to the frustration of the usual band of enthusiasts. Even the president of the Divine GPl4 appreciation society expressed her disappointment in the delay of the return of the famous boat. However, the cruiser fraternity were not deterred, with the usual helms and crews enjoying a close encounter down to Eel Point, and home via North Highcliff. Rolly Squibbs, in his recent acquisition, Sapphire, crossed the line ahead of the rest of the fleet, but was beaten on handicap by the master tactitian, Blake Shaw, in Slipstream. The final 1-2-3 was: 1. Blake shaw in Slipstream; 2. Rolly Squibbs in Sapphire; 3. John Griffiths in Tejeda. Sailing as usual this Sunday for the dinghy section. Tommorrow (Saturdy) and Monday, cruiser races 3 and 4 are scheduled to start at 1830 and 1100, respectively. As far as tomorrow's race is concerned, please confirm with captain John Griffiths on 812703. Next weekend, May 10/11, the club is hosting the Laser World Qualifier when a large number of very competent sailors will descend on Tenby. This is a prestigious event which demands the highest level of race management, for which Tenby is nationally recognised. If any member is able to help out in any way please contact Rolly Squibbs on 842170. Many thanks in anticipation. Come and Try Evenings. The club is running a 'Come and Try' series of evenings, commencing on Wednesday, May 16 and finishing with a sumptuous BBQ on Saturday, May 19. This is an ideal opportunity for adults to try their hand at sailing. No experience is necessary, so why not sign up and have a go. For further details, contact Blake Shaw on 842535.Carvery.Tomorrow, the club is holding a belated Easter Carvery. This is always a popular evening, with members and friends enjoying traditional cuisine in convivial surroundings. If you have not made a reservation, there may be a place left. Contact Blake Shaw on 842535 to confirm.Last Friday the club steward, Howard Ball, maintained his usual high standard of cuisine enjoyed by the Friday diners. Howard will be catering on Fridays and Saturdays. The evening's darts practice session turned out to be a 'major' competion, with Jeremy Shaw taking the honours. Visiting sailors Harry and Will had a memorable evening with Will demonstrating a standard of darts hitherto unseen in South Wales! I jest of course! Subscriptions.Membership Secretary, Sheila Spiller, informs me that there are still a few subscriptions outstanding. Contact Sheila on 812325 for further details. Finally, anyone interested in joining this vibrant club should contact any member for further details. We look forward to meeting you. |
