Conditions last Sunday proved to be very testing with several of the large turnout opting for the safety of the harbour after completing the first leg. A gusting blow and a loppy sea certainly tested the helms skills at boat handling. Well done to all who participated, especially those who completed the course. The final placings were: 1. Chris MacKay in an RS600; 2. Mike Stace and Deanna Morton in a Redwing; 3. Nathan Spiller in a Laser Vortex. Chris MacKay's return after a long layoff was impressive, as was Nathan Spiller's return after his recent honeymoon. Last Wednesday's sailing was cancelled due to adverse conditions, as was Terry Evans's legendary barbecue, much to the disappointment of the drooling masses. The club fared very well in the popular Hobbs Point to Tenby passage race for cruisers, which attracted a large flotilla of various sizes of cruiser. I'm delighted to report that the third division winners were Blake Shaw and his crew in 'Slipstream', with John Griffiths and his crew coming third in 'Tejeda'. The evening was also a great success, led by Terry Evans' legendary barbecue, superbly assisted by Karen Morris and Ruth Tebbutt - many thanks to them for their stalwart efforts. Annual RegattaThis weekend sees the running of the club's annual regatta, which includes three races tomorrow (Saturday) and the round Caldey race on Sunday. This is always a popular event attracting entries from afar and wide. Weather permitting, I should have a lot to report on next week. Anyone who can offer a hand this weekend should contact Rolly Squibbs on 842170 - thanks in anticipation. For the ravenous among you, Terry Evans will be putting on a barbecue tomorrow evening - a mouth-watering prospect. Jazz BandAlas, the band had to postpone the 'gig' due to illness and various commitments. Mr. Neil Martin assures me that they will amends in their next performance which will be announced soon - we wait with eager anticipation. GP14 |
