As mentioned last week, I did not have the cruiser race results to hand. I can now report that in division two, Daniel Jackson, in yacht Artful Dodger, came first, while in division three, Geoff Titterton, in yacht Amphora, recorded his fifth second place of the series and Blake Shaw, in yacht Slipstream, came sixth. Last Sunday, conditions were not easy with a very gusty north-easterly often competing against the strong tide. I'm delighted to report that Daniel Jackson, in yacht Artful Dodger, and Geoff Titterton, in yacht Amphora, both came first in division two and division three, respectively. With three races to go, things could not be closer. Watch this space! Club racing also took place on Sunday with another fine turnout enjoying relatively calm conditions at the start of the race, but having to cope with much stronger conditions as the race progressed. All participants crossed the finishing line safely, with the final 1-2-3 being: 1. Roly Squibbs and Helen Williams in a Redwing; 2. Dan Lewis in a Laser; 3. Paul Johnson in a Solo. Annual Dinner and Prize-GivingAs mentioned last week, the evening was an outstanding success, with all enjoying excellent food in warm and convivial surroundings. Many thanks to Chris and Kath Osborne and the staff of the Fourcroft Hotel who did us proud! After the meal the prize-giving took place. In his address, commodore Mike Stace commented on a very successful year in which a record number of members and boats had taken to the water. This was reflected in the number of cups and awards presented. The recipients were presented with their prizes by Madame Commodore, Deanna Morton. After the prize-giving, the commodore thanked all for supporting the club and hoped for an even better year to come. The festivities continued into the small hours, with members enjoying the in-house disco. Again, many thanks to the Fourcroft for contributing to the success of the evening. The photograph above of the prize winners is by courtesy of RS400. DartsWoe oh woe! We were most emphatically put in our place by a fiery team from the Rugby Club. We often matched their scoring, but again our nemesis was the inability to get the elusive double, unlike the Rugby Club, who took their chances very well indeed. When the news of this humiliating defeat reached captain Terry Evans, smelling salts were used to revive him. His normally temperate nature took a turn for the worse uttering 'heads will roll'. After a calming 'lemonade' he recovered his composure and called upon the troops to regroup and concentrate their efforts on this evening's match, which is away to the British Legion. Participating members please note. Quiz and Cawl EveningTomorrow (Saturday) evening, by popular demand, Terry Evans has agreed to put on a quiz, which will have a seasonal flavour, and his world famous cawl.
