The Redwing sailors had a great week at Fishguard, with conditions varying daily and ending with the traditional Friday gale. Five helms and various crews made up the Tenby contingent, with Rolly Squibbs ending up as Tenby's leading helm. There were several capsizes and often hilarious incidents, one of which ended up with Deanna Morton taking the title of 'bruiser of the week'. The final positions of the Tenby participants were: Rolly Squibbs and various crews 4th; Mike Stace and Deanna Morton 7th; Bill Dowell and Nan D'Ortez 8th; Alex MacDonald and various crews 12th; Dave Bowen and Helen Williams 15th. Well done to our representatives and many thanks to Fishguard Sailing Club for hosting the event and to the proprietors of The Ship for their warm hospitality. The Redwings look forward to next year's nationals in the Isles of Scilly. Local junior sailor Tommy D'Ortez is making a name for himself in Welsh sailing circles by winning the CYRC regional squad championship and travels to Plas Menai for the next event. Tommy was also the first Topper in Saundersfoot Regatta - he's certainly on a roll. Another of our juniors, Jonathan Lewis (alias Johnsy), has recently won the Welsh Safety Boat Handling Championship at Llangors. Well done Johnsy! He travels to Southampton later this month to compete in the British Championship. We wish him well. On the social side, things are slowing down after a very busy summer. An autumn programme is being drawn up and will be published soon - watch this space. The club opening hours revert back to winter times, namely Friday evenings, Saturday evenings and Sunday lunchtime, with the occasional opening at other times for various functions. Finally, anyone wishing to join this thriving club should contact any member for further details. We look forward to meeting you. GP14 |
