Saturday's cruiser race was keenly contested over a long course, with the wind strength diminishing towards the end of the race. The final positions were: 1. Daniel Jackson (Enigma); 2. Ted Lewis (Hawke); 3. Rolly Squibbs (Sapphire). Mike Stace and Deanna Morton decided to join in the proceedings in Mike's Redwing and eventually finished an unofficial third. The club sometimes runs a cruiser dinghy race which is always a talking point in the clubhouse after the race. Sunday's dinghy race was also keenly contested. Mike and Deanna set off at a blistering pace, as did Daniel Jackson in his RS700. Alas, a broken tiller extension forced Daniel to retire, while Rolly Squibbs and Mike began a tactical race, which resulted in Rolly taking the honours on this occasion. The final positions were: 1. Rolly Squibbs and John Beamish (Redwing); 2. Mike Stace and Deanna Morton (Redwing); 3. Steve Stubbs (RS700). Of the Toppers fleet, Angelo Fecci stole the honours ahead of Tommy D'Ortez. Angelo has recently acquired a new Topper which is certainly bringing dividends. Many thanks to Saundersfoot Sailing Club for running their annual Coppet Hall Week. The Tenby contingent fared very well, with Bill Dowell and Nan D'Ortez coming first in the Redwing class and Angelo Fecci first in the Topper class. David Edwards and Chris MacKay also fared very well in the two races in which they participated, coming fifth and first in their 49er. What of the divine GPl4 you may ask. Heavy work commitments have prevented its glorious return, but fear not, it will be back. I had to assure the president of the divine GPl4 appreciation society that the delay of this major event was unavoidable. A reminder to junior sailors that Wednesday evening sessions are now up and running. The Wednesday point races have also started - members please note. On the social scene, life goes on. Terry Evans's Wednesday barbecues are in swing and club steward Howard Ball informed me that he is catering on Fridays. A technical hitch has meant the cancellation of this culinary feast for the last two Fridays. Finally, anyone interested in joining this warm and friendly club should contact any member who will be delighted to supply further information. |
