Apologies to my avid readers about last week's non-article. The writer was away in the highlands of Bonnie Scotland. During my absence there has been lots of sailing to report on. There follows a brief summary of this recent sailing. Wednesday, July 21st (wind strength 2, wind direction W): 1. Mike Stace and Deanna Morton in a Redwing; 2. Rolly Squibbs and Alex MacDonald in a Redwing; 3. Nick Berridge in a Phantom. Sunday, July 25th (wind strength 2 to 5, wind direction WNW): 1. Steve and Matt Davie in a Laser 2000; 2. Nathan Spiller in a Laser Vortex; 3. Mike Stace and Deanna Morton in a Redwing. This race was keenly contested, with only five seconds separating the first two. Wednesday, July 28th (wind strength 2, wind direction W): 1. Mike Stace and Deanna Morton in a Redwing; 2. Ted Lewis in a Phantom; 3. Steve Stubbs in a Laser. Sunday. August 1st (wind strength 0 to 2, wind direction SE): 1. Mike Stace and Deanna Morton in a Redwing; 2. Rolly Squibbs and Jane Brace in a Redwing; 3. Mark and Julia Dashfield in a RS400. Sunday's racing again attracted a large turnout, as all the other dates. It was interesting to note that all the double-handed vessels consisted of family groups, which emphasises the fact that we are a family club. National Championship - Firefly ClassThis weekend sees the arrival of the Fireflies which are a well-established class. The club is proud to host the event which lasts a week. A plethora of these dinghies will descend on Tenby during tomorrow with their helms, crews and accompanying families. Racing starts in earnest on Sunday at 11 a.m. and continues every day, culminating in the main prize-giving on Friday evening. This type of event demands a great deal of time and commitment from club members and friends. Should anyone be in a position to help, please contact Blake Shaw on 842535 - any help would be appreciated. During the course of the week, on top of the sailing, a busy social programme has been arranged which includes Terry Evans' world famous Barbecue and live music. Let us hope the weather conditions are favourable, thereby giving the competitors a memorable week. GP14 |
