May I, on behalf of the Commodore and all members, wish you all a happy and prosperous New Year. Let us hope that 2005 will be at least as successful as 2004. The success of any club like ours depends on the commitment and hard work of several key members who so freely give of their time. Events both on and off the water do not happen overnight - 2004 was a great team effort which reaped its rewards. If any member wishes to get more involved please feel free. DartsThe season continues this evening with an away match at the Three Mariners. Captain Terry Evans expects a vast improvement this year - participating members please note. New Year's EveA superb evening was had by all. The club is indebted to Nick Berridge who kept members dancing way into the early hours - let us hope we can acquire his services for future events. Thanks also to the commodore, Mike Stace, for his contribution to the success of the evening and to Ed Dashfield for his efforts. After midnight, the traditional curry was eagerly consumed by the ravenous revellers - thanks to Paul Evenden and Anthea Paterson for preparing the 'hot stuff'. Congratulations to John Moore who won Benjamin Bear in the first draw of 2005 - his grandson Oliver will surely be the recipient of a toy twice his size. Non Posh Nosh EveningThis culinary experience takes place tomorrow (Saturday) evening, commencing at 7.30 p.m. This is an ideal opportunity to revert back to 'basic' food after a fortnight-plus of festive excesses. On the menu will be such traditional delights as Egg and Chips, Ham, Egg and Chips and Spam, Spam, Spam and Chips (well, perhaps not). Participating members and friends can look forward to Terry Evans's legendary home-made real chips. Terry looks forward to feeding you. Annual Scalextric ChampionshipThis prestigious event takes place on Saturday, January 22nd. Last year's champion, Roy Lawrence, will be eager to defend his title. Organiser and chief marshal, Ed Dashfield, informs me that the format will be the same as last year, with a few minor adjustments. If previous years are anything to go by, the evening promises to be a lot of fun. Sea SafetyOn Saturday, January 29th, commencing at 7 p.m., the H.M. Coastguard and R.N.L.I. Sea Safety Department will be giving a talk on GMDSS/DSC Radio, including hands-on practice. Also included will be advice on life-jackets, flares and general safety equipment. If you go boating, you should make an effort to attend. Safety at sea is paramount, irrespective of the type of boat you use. Make a note in your diaries now! Other Dates
Other activities are in the pipeline which will include, for example, a quiz with a particular theme - watch this space! SubscriptionsIt's that time of year again - annual subscriptions were due on January 1st, 2005 (last Saturday)! As in previous years, members who wished to pay their subscriptions early were given a discount voucher. If you haven't taken up this offer, tough: you're too late. Please contact membership secretary, Julia Dashfield, on 844918, for further details. You can print off a copy of the Membership Renewal Form from these pages. This is a very friendly and welcoming club which endeavours to involve all members in a variety of activities. If you would like to participate by joining, then now is an ideal time. Contact any members who will be delighted to furnish you with further details. We look forward to meeting you. GP14 |
