Last Sunday's racing was dominated by junior Topper sailors who took advantage of the absence of the senior fleet. Conditions were very testing which made the participants concentrate on all their skill acquired in recent WYA sail training sessions. Unfortunately, I have not received the final 1-2-3, but I believe the first spot was taken by the ever-improving Tommy D'Ortez. More details next week. This weekend the club is running a Laser World Qualifier when a large number of very experienced and skilful sailors will descend on Tenby all vying for places in the World Championships. Running an event of this nature and stature demands the time of several key members who are very experienced in race management. The club is very fortunate indeed to have so many experienced personnel - let us hope the weather matches their enthusiasm. Next week, on the evenings of Wednesday, May 14 to Saturday, May 17, the club is holding its annual 'Come and Try' series of sailing sessions when adults who fancy having a go can enjoy sailing under the supervision of very experienced sailors. For more information, contact Blake Shaw on 842535. Last Monday, the cruiser fraternity turned out in force to do battle on the high seas. The course of Eel Point, DZ2 and home in conjunction with a strong breeze was ideally suited for an exciting sail. The final leg, a close reach, was most exhilarating. The final 1-2-3 was: 1. John Griffiths in Tejeda; 2. Ted Lewis in Hawke; 3. Blake Shaw in Slipstream. On the social scene, last weekend was a culinary treat. With club steward, Howard Ball, unwell, Terry Evans took over the mantle of head cook and bottle washer on Friday evening and served up some superb wholesome food which was ravenously consumed by members present. Many thanks to Terry for all his efforts. The annual Easter Carvery held on Saturday was a great success with all present enjoying a high standard of cuisine. Many thanks to Blake Shaw and his entourage for a superb evening. Still on the food scene, the Wednesday BBQs will commence soon. Watch this space. Good news, Howard is recovering and is back - Friday evening 'diners' will be delighted. Finally, anyone interested in joining this warm and friendly club should contact any member for further details. |
