Apologies to the vast band of avid followers of the riveting weekly articles for the absence of a full account last week. Work commitments were such that I failed to meet the deadline for major literary works. There has been lots of sailing lately, what with the Redwing fleet taking part in their National championships in the Scilly Isles and two very good turnouts last Wednesday and Sunday. I'm delighted to report that Mike Stace and Deanna Morton came seventh, while Rolly Squibbs and Mark Horne came eleventh. Last Wednesday saw a very large turnout of young trainees and a racing fleet. Senior instructor, Blake Shaw, put the youngsters through their paces and was very impressed with the ever improving standard of our juniors. All bodes well for the future of sailing at Tenby if the trend continues. The evenings race was keenly contested with, I understand, some close encounters at the first mark. Final positions were: 1. Mark Dashfield and James Allen (RS400); 2. Alan Lamberts and Paul Johnston; 3. Ted Lewis (Phantom). Sunday's racing took the form of a drift, with the fleet struggling to make any headway, with no wind to speak of. Some of the fleet did not finish due to the strong tide, but several did. Final positions were: 1. Alex MacDonald (Redwing); 2. Steve and Matte Davie (Laser 2000); 3. Ted Lewis (Phantom). Sailing as usual this Sunday and next Wednesday - would the racing fleet take to the water earlier next Wednesday to ensure the race takes place in sufficient light. The social scene continues to flourish, with Terry Evans's award-winning barbecues still attracting the ravenous masses. Next Wednesday may possibly be the last of the season, but who knows? Watch this space. Club steward, Howard Ball, also continues to attract the discerning palate with Fridays and Saturdays still proving very popular. So, why not come down and enjoy the fruits of Howard's labours in warm and convivial surroundings? He looks forward to feeding you. An autumn programme of events is in the process of being drawn up. If any member has any novel idea or ideas for a fun evening, please contact Terry Evans on (01834) 844256 - many thanks in anticipation. GPI4 |
