The foibles of modem technology denied readers of the mysteries of my weekly report. Racing on Sunday, September 28th took place at home and away. Club racing was keenly contested, as usual, with the Redwings dominating proceedings. The final 1-2-3 was: 1. Mike Stace and Deanna Morton in a Redwing; 2. Alex and Ruth MacDonald in a Redwing; 3. Steve Dovey in a Laser. Many thanks to Jane Brace for taking on the role of race officer. Whilst the dinghy sailors were battling it out, several club members were taking part in the inaugural race of the winter series on the Haven. All divisions were well represented with at least 17 yachts in each. The Haven was particularly busy with large tankers and the Irish Ferry to contend with, as well as a large fleet from Milford. The Tenby contingent fared well with Daniel Jackson in Enigma gaining a third place in division two, Blake Shaw in Slipstream also gaining a third in division three with Billy Stubbs in Amphora coming seventh. Last Sunday, the usual band of 'merry' sailors took to the water. Race officer, Rolly Squibbs, set a course in keeping with the conditions which certainly suited Ted Lewis who, at last, broke the stranglehold of the Redwings. The final 1-2-3 was: 1. Ted Lewis in a Phantom; 2. Mike Stace and Deanna Morton in a Redwing; 3. Bill Dowell and Nan D'Ortez in a Redwing. As last week, whilst the dinghy sailors did battle, the cruising fraternity took on board the varying conditions at Milford Haven. Again a large number of yachts took part in all divisions, which meant all had to concentrate to secure good finishes. Indeed, such was the case when Tony Spiller finished second in Amphora and Blake Shaw finished fourth in division three, while Daniel Jackson finished third in division two. It bodes well for the Tenby contingent for the coming weeks. Social SceneTwo weeks ago we were given a darts lesson which was disappointing in the light of the previous week's momentous win. Last week, Terry Evans played a captain's role by securing the second win of the season. The celebrations are becoming prolonged but richly deserved. Tonight (Friday), the team are away to the Woodridge, participating members please note. Whilst on the social scene, the long awaited social programme for the period leading to Christmas has been finalised. This will be included in the newsletter, which will be circulated to members imminently. Some important dates to note are: Saturday, October 18 - Quiz evening; Friday, October 31 - Hallowe'en and fireworks evening with bangers and mash; Saturday, November 15 - Annual Dinner; Saturday, November 22 - Annual General Meeting; Saturday, December 6 - Poems and Pints; Friday, December 12 - Junior Party; Saturday, December 20 - Christmas Carvery. Please support your club. Again, if anyone has any novel ideas for inclusion in the social programme contact Terry Evans on 844256.
