Last Wednesday's racing drew a large number of participants, as well as the junior training fleet. Conditions were ideal for sailing, a calm sea with a north-westerly breeze force 2/3. The final 1-2-3 was: 1, Mike Stace and Deanna Morton in a Redwing; 2. Ted Lewis in a Phantom; 3. Angelo Fecci in a Topper. Many thanks to Ed Dashfield and Jonathan Lewis for their contribution to the success of Wednesday evenings. The turnout for Sunday's racing was disappointing. One of the main reasons is the traffic arrangements resulting from the pedestrianisation scheme - the club hopes that sailors from without the town walls will make the effort in future. Having said that, the racing was thoroughly enjoyed by those who could make it, with the final 1-2-3 being: 1. Mike Stace and Deanna Morton in a Redwing; 2. Rolly Squibbs and Helen Williams in a Redwing; 3. Ted Lewis in a Phantom. Mike and Deanna are definitely on a roll - watch this space! As usual, Terry Evans's Wednesday barbecue is extremely well attended - members, why not come down and have a midweek gorge. This weekend, club steward Howard Ball is catering - regular members please note. Cruise in CompanyThis Sunday, July 13, the club's annual 'Cruise in company' takes place when members and friends can sail in company to a designated venue, which will be decided on Sunday when the weather and tide have been taken into account. This is a popular event, with several types of craft being used. Would participants please gather at 10 am by the clubhouse. We look forward to sailing with you. Looking further ahead, the club is hosting the Scorpions for their national championship. This is a popular class, with a large number of boats regularly attending their championships. Hence we are expecting an excellent turnout. Running a championship demands the time and effort of several club members. Should anyone be able to offer their services, please contact Rolly Squibbs on 812170 or Blake Shaw on 842435. Your help would be appreciated. The event takes place from July 26 to August 2 - let us hope for superb sailing weather and that the traffic embargo will not affect the number of entries. Many thanks in anticipation to all members and friends who so often give of their time. GP14 |
