While essential maintenance work is taking place during the winter recess, it's with eager anticipation we look to the new sailing programme which is being drawn up at this moment. It will include the usual regattas and the Enterprise National Championships, as well as the weekly Sunday and Wednesday races. Wednesdays will also include the junior sail training which will culminate in the Club Junior Championship - our juniors are progressing very well and several are almost ready to experience the thrills of competitive sailing. Also planned is the adult 'come and try' series of evenings - this is always a popular event which often results in very keen new members. Watch this space for details and dates. DartsA disappointing start to the second half of the season. We lost yet again by the usual margin as a result of the inability to get that elusive double. Captain Terry Evans' heroic attempts were not enough to inspire the team. This evening we are at home to the Basscatchers who are always fun to play. Perhaps with home advantage we can register a win - who knows? Non Posh Nosh EveningAn evening of a variety of good wholesome food was enjoyed by the ravenous hordes. Chef Terry Evans put on a feast to cater for all tastes - indeed some members came back for 'thirds', such was the popularity of the menu, especially his award-winning 'real' chips. Annual Scalextric ChampionshipsThis prestigious event takes place on Saturday, January 22nd. Unfortunately, last year's champion, Roy Lawrence, will not be present to defend his title. The door is open, you budding Schumachers! Organiser and chief marshal, Ed Dashfield, informs me that the format will be the same as last year, with a few minor adjustments. If previous years are to go by, the evening promises to be a lot of fun. Sea SafetyOn Saturday, January 29th, commencing at 7 p.m., the H.M. Coastguard and R.N.L.I. Sea Safety Department will be giving a talk on GMDSS/DSC Radio, including hands-on practice. Also included will be advice on lifejackets, flares and general safety equipment. If you go boating, you should make an effort to attend. Safety at sea is paramount, irrespective of the type of boat you use. Make a note in your diaries now! Other Dates
