Continuing on last week's theme of sailing training, the club intends to encourage adults as well as youngsters to enjoy the thrill of sailing. To this end the 'come and try' series will again take place in the spring when the weather is favourable. This takes the form of some land based tuition followed by 'sea trials' when the trainees can practice their new found skills whilst fully supervised by experienced instructors. The exact dates will be published as soon as the club fixture card has been finalised. This is expected within a month or so. While the winter break has curtailed sailing, there's plenty happening on shore. Essential maintenance work is taking place, which includes boat refurbishment, checking of ground tackle, marks etc. All this takes time and effort. If any member is able to lend a hand please contact Rolly Squibbs on 842170 or Mike Stace on 844484. Many thanks in anticipation. Social SceneThe social scene continues to flourish. Last Saturday, Terry Evans and Blake Shaw fed a multitude of ravenous members with a variety of mouth-watering dishes, which included venison in red wine, beef casserole and chicken tikka. On top of that there were genuine chips made out of 'real potatoes' also being served by the barrow load. All agreed that the chips was the 'icing on the cake' in what was a gastronomic experience. Scalextric ChallengeThe next event is the Scalextric Challenge evening on Saturday, January 24th, when members can pit their driving skills against each other. Are you up to it? Can you meet the challenge? There's only one way to find out. Come on down to the club for a fun race evening arranged by the Dashfield family. There will be food laid on to keep up the energy levels. I do not have the exact format of the challenge to hand, so watch this space next week! St.Valentine's SupperThis takes place on Saturday, February 14th. Please contact Mike Stace on 844484 to make a reservation. Judging by last year's response, I suggest you make your reservation early to avoid disappointment. Mike and Deanna always dish up something exotic and delicious. Mike is keeping the menu hush-hush at the moment, but I'm sure they will come up trumps. DartsOh dear, oh dear! What a performance, especially by captain Terry Evans, who couldn't hit a double if he stood in it! What happened to the previous week's form? We narrowly lost, deservedly may I add, doubles again being our downfall. .We will need a gargantuan effort this week if we are to challenge the mighty Crown, who we play at home. Participating members please note that the club will open from 7.15 p.m. to provide the opportunity for well needed practice before the opposition arrive. SubscriptionsAnnual subscriptions are now due. Please contact the membership secretary on 844918 for further details. Finally, anyone wishing to join the thriving club should contact any member who will be delighted to provide further details. We look forward to meeting you. GP14 |
