Yet another large flotilla took to the water last Sunday, which is most encouraging. It was great to see Paul Evenden, one of our newest recruits, taking to the water in a Wayfarer. Paul recently attended the adult sail training series which spurred him on to purchasing a boat. The racing was keenly contested with comeback ace, Steve Stubbs, showing his sailing prowess in his recently acquired Laser. As usual, the Redwing contingent were there or thereabouts. All agreed the morning's sailing had been most enjoyable, with the final 1-2-3 being: 1. Steve Stubbs in a Laser; 2. Mike Stace and Deanna Morton in a Redwing; 3. Steve and Matt Davie in a Laser 2000. What of the divine GPI4, I hear you ask? Work, work and more work has prevented its helm terrorising the rest of the fleet. Fans, do not despair, it will be back soon! Whilst club members were enjoying conditions at Tenby, Tommy D'Ortez and Govan Berridge took part in the Welsh Schools' Championship at Mumbles. With Blake Shaw as principal race officer, everything went smoothly, with Govan (representing Netherwood) and Tommy (representing Greenhill) coming third and eighth, respectively. Congratulations - considering the size and experience of the fleet, their performances are to be highly commended. This Sunday sees the annual 'cruise in company' when club members and friends 'zoom' off in a variety of craft to a local beach for a fun day out. Please gather at the harbour for a 10 a.m. start. Let us hope for clement weather. Wednesday sailing also continues to flourish. Unfortunately the weather has not been kind to us, with last Wednesday's sailing cancelled. However, this did not deter Terry Evans, who put on his usual world famous Barbecue, much to the delight of the ravenous members. Whilst on a culinary theme, Howard Ball's 'a la carte' continues to taunt members' taste buds - his recent steak and ale pie was extremely moorish. So why not come down on Fridays and Saturdays to enjoy his famous cuisine? GP14 |
