Tenby Sailing Club Race Results & Social Events.

Friday 17th September 2004

Last Wednesday again saw a very large turnout. Principal instructor was kept very busy by the plethora of eager juniors trying to impress.

It's extremely encouraging to see so many youngsters enthusiastic about sailing. Who knows, a future Olympic champion may be in the making?

The racing fleet enjoyed a tight race with the Wayfarer class making its mark! Finals positions were:

         1. Ted Lewis in a Phantom; 2. Alex MacDonald in a Redwing; 3. Paul Evenden and Anthea Paterson in a Wayfarer; 4. Paul Johnson and Alan Lambert in a Wayfarer.

Congratulations must go to recently joined members Paul and Anthea for their first 'podium' result - no mean feat considering the experience of the opposition. They haven't, yet, had the experience of racing against the divine GPI4 - watch this space!

Saturday saw a few intrepid cruiser helms and crew take to the water in strong conditions to say the least.

All participants started the race, but it soon became evident the rising conditions did not suit the lighter yachts who retired fairly soon after the start.

Others did continue to the first mark, Giltar, after which it became apparent that the strengthening wind, gusting 41 knots at times, was to play a factor in how many finished.

After some soul searching, a few retired early leaving only two finishers, namely Rolly Squibbs in Sapphire and John Griffiths in Tejeda. Well done to all who braved the elements and especially to Rolly and John, plus crews.

Unfortunately Sunday's racing was cancelled due to the inclement conditions. Racing as usual this Sunday.

Darts

It's that time of year again when members have to put their reputations on the line. Unfortunately at the time the District League drew up their timetable a few key decisions had not been made which meant that we did not submit a team.

Issues have now been resolved and it is hoped to join the Town League - more next week.

Dart practice this (Friday) evening. Participating members should note that this is compulsory and captain Terry Evans 'expects' this year!

Howard is cooking as usual this weekend so why not enjoy superb food in warm and convivial surroundings. He looks forward to feeding you.

While on the social scene, an autumn programme of events is being drawn up which will be included in the next newsletter. Any novel ideas would be most welcome - contact Terry Evans on 844256 with your contribution. Terry expresses his thanks in anticipation.
