Tenby Sailing Club Race Results & Social Events.

Friday 17th December 2004

Junior prizewinners at the Christmas Party and Disco, December 2004.

Another turnout of hardy sailors did battle in trying conditions which resulted in the following results:

          1. Dan Lewis in a Laser; 2. Rolly Squibbs and Helen Williams in a Redwing; 3. Paul Evenden and Anthea Paterson in a Wayfarer; 4. Paul Johnson in a Solo.

The final Frostbite series takes place this Sunday with the final race of the season taking place on Boxing Day in conjunction with the Boxing Day Swim festivities.

Meanwhile, on the Haven, the cruiser fraternity had to contend with very different conditions from previous weeks. The racing was close, with the Tenby contingent again faring very well. In division two, Daniel Jackson, in yacht Artful Dodger, took first place which, unless I'm mistaken, has secured him and his crew the division two title. The situation in division three is still wide open. Billy Stubbs, in yacht Amphora, and Blake Shaw, in yacht Slipstream, came second and fourth, respectively. The final places are dependent on this Sunday's results. Watch this space!

Darts

Lo and behold - we won! The celebrations are still continuing as we recorded our second win of the season. After falling behind in the singles games, captain Terry Evans made a brilliant tactical decision which resulted in us winning all the remaining games. Indeed, the winning dart was thrown by the illustrious captain.

Terry, however, did have a 'senior moment' during the evening by inadvertently leaving one of our star players, Rolly Squibbs, out of the singles. Rolly's inclusion in the doubles certainly helped the victory.

Back to earth this evening as we are away to the Evergreen. Participating members please note. Who knows? The first half of the season may end on a high note by a third win - the return to the throng of the commodore, Mike Stace, should greatly enhance our chances!

Junior Party

The junior party was a huge success with a plethora of lively, enthusiastic juniors partying as only juniors do. Many thanks to all who contributed to the success of the evening - a special thanks to Ruth Tebbutt for co-ordinating the evening and thanks also to the vice-commodore for his contribution, especially in the prize-giving.

The successful recipients of trophies were as follows:

1st Junior - Elliot Doney; 2nd Junior - Angelo Fecci; 3rd Junior - Tommy D'Ortez; Best Junior Crew - Matt Davie; R.N.L.I. Trophy - Jonathan Morris.

The photograph above shows the prize- winners accompanied by the presenter of the trophies, vice-commodore Daniel Jackson. From the left, they are: Jonathan Morris, Elliot Doney, vice-commodore Daniel Jackson, Matt Davies and Angelo Fecci.

Annual Christmas Carvery

This popular gorging event takes place tomorrow (Saturday). This evening of culinary bliss is an ideal opportunity to begin the festive season in earnest. I understand there are still places left - if you intend to participate, please reserve your tables by contacting Blake Shaw on 842535 as soon as possible. We look forward to feeding you!

Christmas Hamper

Great news - Julia Dashfield has diligently prepared a superb Christmas hamper. Julia thanks all those members who contributed. The draw will take place tomorrow evening during the carvery.

While on the subject of raffles, the usual Boxing Day draw will take place - the first prize is a must! (teddy bear connoisseurs please note). Come and visit us on Boxing Day - you've got to be in it to win it!

Sea Safety

On Saturday, January 29th, commencing at 7 p.m., the H.M. Coastguard and R.N.L.I. Sea Safety Department will be giving a talk on GMDSS/DSC Radio, including hands-on practice. Also included will be advice on life-jackets, flares and general safety equipment. If you go boating, you should make an effort to attend. Safety at sea is paramount, irrespective of the type of boat you use. Make a note in your diaries now!
