Tenby Sailing Club Race Results.

Friday 18th July 2003

Last Wednesday saw a large turnout for the sail training and the racing. Indeed, the turnout was such that Terry Evans' barbecue stock was completely decimated. Conditions were light, but sufficiently testing for the participants.

The final positions were: 1. Mike Stace and Deanna Morton (Redwing), 2. Ted Lewis (Phantom); 3. Alistair MacKay (Laser); 4. Paul and Alan (Wayfarer); 5. Angelo Fecci (Topper).

Many thanks to Ed, Johnsy and Rhys for their continued support in manning the safety boats. It was also a delight to see Alistair sailing his daughter's Laser and gaining a podium position.

On Saturday, the regional safety boat handling championships for juniors took place at Gelleswick. This involved manoeuvring a safety boat around a course which involved various tasks which tested handling skills.

Two of our junior members tools part. namely Jonathan Lewis and Tommy D'Ortez. I am delighted to report that Jonathan overwhelmed the opposition by some margin. Many congratulations to Jonathan who will now compete in the Welsh finals at Plas Menai. Watch this space!

Also, many thanks to Polly Evans who bravely accompanied Jonathan on his attempt.

Cruise in Company

Last Sunday's 'Cruise in Company' was a tremendous success, with 11 cruisers and other Powerboats making their way to a local bay. Over 50 people enjoyed a relaxing day, with several barbecues being shared, adding several culinary experiences to the event. Many thanks to Terry Evans and Mark Dashfield for their effort in transporting all participants from their craft to the beach, not an easy task in a swell.

Cruiser Regatta

This weekend the club is holding its annual Cruiser Regatta. Tomorrow's (Saturday's) racing begins at 10 am, as does Sunday's Round Caldey Race. Members please note.

Scorpion National Championships

The Scorpion Class is well established and its national championship regularly attracts over 60 boats. The club is privileged to host this prestigious event, with proceedings beginning on Saturday, July 26. This involves a great deal of organisation and commitment by several members who so freely give of their time. Should anyone be able to offer assistance of any sort, please contact Rolly Squibbs on (01834) 842170 or Blake Shaw on 842535. Many thanks in anticipation.
