Due to an unforeseen problem, last week's article did not appear - apologies to my avid readers. Lots of racing to report on, beginning with Wednesday, September 3. This race was a keenly contested affair, with the Redwings dominating proceedings. The final positions were: 1. Mike Stace and Deanna Morton (Redwing); 2. Rolly Squibbs and Alex MacDonald (Redwing); 3. Tommy D'Ortez (Topper). Many thanks to Terry Evans for taking on the role of race officer at a nanosecond's notice. The race on Sunday, September 7, consisted entirely of Redwings, with Chris MacKay and Angelo Fecci carrying out the race officer duties. The race was again keenly contested with a few capsizes in keeping with the conditions. The final positions were: 1. Mike Stace and Deanna Morton; 2. Alex MacDonald and Helen Williams; 3. Rolly Squibbs and Jayne Brace. Last Wednesday's race was the last of the midweek series, with a large turnout enjoying the course set by Terry Evans and Ed Dashfield. Again, the Redwings dominated, with only a few seconds separating the first two at the end of the race. The final positions were: 1. Mike Stace and Deanna Morton; 2. Rolly Squibbs and Alex MacDonald; 3. Angelo Fecci (Topper). The evening was completed by Terry Evans who put on his usual mouth-watering barbecue. Many thanks to Terry for all his efforts in keeping the inner-man satisfied throughout the season. What of the divine GPI4 you may ask? This very question was put to me by the president of the divine GPI4 appreciation society. The truth of the matter is that the blessed dinghy has been vandalised by person or persons unknown. Its hull has been holed towards the bow (the sharp end) but, fret not, it is being repaired and hopefully will sail in the Frostbite series - watch this space! There was no racing last Sunday due to the fact that several key members were away. Rolly Squibbs and Jayne Brace travelled to the Southampton Boat Show with Jonathan Lewis (Johnsy), who was taking part in the final of the National Safety Boat Handling competition. I'm delighted to report that Johnsy gained a third place, which is a tremendous achievement - well done Johnsy! The social scene continues. Last Friday, in the absence of the club steward, Terry Evans cooked for the masses - is there no end to this man's versatility? Howard is back this weekend. DartsThe new season begins this (Friday) evening with a home game against the Castle Inn, Manorbier. Practice has gone well, so it is with renewed hope we enter into this year's competition. Could participating members gather at 8 pm for a team talk by captain Terry Evans. A social programme is being compiled and will be published. shortly. If any member has any ideas for a social evening, please contact Terry Evans on (01834) 844256 as soon as possible. Many thanks in anticipation. To start the autumn social calendar there will be an end of season 'party' on Saturday, September 27. All are welcome - we look forward to celebrating the end of the season with you. GP14 |
