A superb turnout certainly enjoyed the conditions on Sunday. It's very encouraging to see so many on the water at this time of the year. With the fleet relatively compressed throughout the race, the final 1-2-3 was: 1. Mike Stace and Deanna Morton in a Redwing; 2. Ted Lewis in a Phantom; 3. Paul Johnson in a Solo. While the dinghy fleet was 'doing battle' at Tenby, the cruiser fraternity certainly impressed on the Haven, with both Daniel Jackson, in yacht Artful Dodger, and Blake Shaw in yacht Slipstream, coming second in divisions two and three, respectively. These results mean that both helms are in pole position to date. You can see a picture of the two boats in the pictures pages of the website. There has been another notable success by one of our junior members. Tommy D'Ortez is making a name for himself on the national scene. He is regularly attending the Welsh squad training sessions, both at regional and national venues. He has represented the club in two world qualifiers in the Laser Radial class. Well done Tommy - we look forward to possible Olympic success? Powerboat CourseSix of our members attended a Level 2 powerboat course last weekend. The course was held at Tenby in ideal conditions. The participants were put through their paces by WYA instructors, Dai Thomas and Iwan Basten. They were impressed by the competence and enthusiasm of all six and were delighted to award each with their certificates. Congratulations to Steve Davey, Alex MacDonald, Mark Brace, Karen Morris, Dave Bowen and Paul Evenden. Annual General MeetingLast Saturday, the club held its annual general meeting. A large attendance ensured a lively meeting with constructive debate. A detailed report will appear next week. Annual Dinner and Prize-givingThe annual dinner and prize-giving takes place tomorrow (Saturday) at the Fourcroft Hotel. Would members please gather at 7 p.m. This is always a popular event and this year is no exception with numbers attending pleasing commodore Mike Stace. There will be the usual raffle, so the usual plea for prizes - thanks in anticipation. DartsThe status quo remains. Even captain Terry Evans, who scored prolifically, caught the 'inability to get a double' syndrome. There's no formal fixture this evening, but there is an obligatory practice session at the club, when the captain will try to bolster his weary troops. Other Dates to Note
A social programme for the new year is being prepared - again, a plea for any novel ideas. Finally. anyone wishing to join this warm and friendly club should contact any member for further details. We look forward to meeting you. GP14 |
