Tenby Sailing Club Race Results.

Friday 19th December 2003

Dinghy sailing did take place on Sunday despite the temptation to stay on dry land due to the strong conditions.

Race officer, M. Williams, set a course in-keeping with the conditions, which certainly tested the skills of the sailors.

Rolly Squibbs provided the talking point of the day by sailing a Topper - no mean feat considering the size of the boat. There were a few spectacular capsizes, several by Alan Lambert in his Solo. However, all finished the race with smiles on their faces.

The final 1-2-3 was: 1. Rolly Squibbs in a Topper; 2. Mike Stace and Deanna Morton in a Redwing; 3. Alan Lambert in a Solo.

Racing as usual this Sunday, with the final race of the year taking place on Boxing Day.

The cruiser fraternity took on the elements on the Haven, with all competitors reefing. Conditions were such that several boats retired early to avoid gear failure. The Tenby contingent had mixed fortunes, the best of which was Billy Stubbs crossing the line in yacht Amphora ahead of the rest of the division three fleet.

This was the final race of the series, with the Tenby helms faring very well.

In division two, Daniel Jackson in yacht Enigma came second, while Billy Stubbs in yacht Amphora and Blake Shaw in yacht Slipstream came third and fifth, respectively. Well done gentlemen!

          Now to the social scene.

Tomorrow (Saturday), the popular Christmas carvery takes place. I believe bookings have gone well, so if you require places, please contact Blake Shaw on 842535 immediately to avoid disappointment.

Boxing Day Swim

The club will be open as usual during and after the Boxing Day Swim. The annual draw will take place, with several great prizes on offer.

Darts

Oh dear! Oh dear! Oh dear! We were drubbed. Absence of several star players, including captain Terry Evans, meant a depleted team going into battle. They fought bravely, but again 'doubles' were our nemesis.

The next match is on Friday, January 9th, when we are away to the Castle Inn, Manorbier. The captain expects a vast improvement in the new year!

New Year's Eve

The club is open as usual on New Year's Eve when the traditional open party takes place. There will be a prize draw every hour and the traditional 'Commodore's Curry' after midnight. See you there!

The social scene for the New Year is included in the recent newsletter. On top of the published events I'm hoping to acquire the services of the Greenhill Jazz Band - watch this space.

I understand Saundersfoot Sailing Club members are temporarily without their clubhouse. The club extends a warm welcome to any Saundersfoot member who wishes to use our facilities.

Finally, may I, on behalf of the club, wish you all a happy Christmas and a prosperous new year.
