I mentioned last week the club would be running its usual 'come and try' series of evenings. This is an ideal opportunity for adults who have not done much sailing, or none at all, to have a go. It's free and supervised by well qualified instructors and will take place in May or June. Several of our keenest members joined as a result of attending the 'come and try' series - indeed, such is their enthusiasm that they are now posing a threat to the regular Sunday and Wednesday podium occupiers. Watch this space for further details. DartsYes, we lost again by the narrowest of margins. After winning the first three games, we looked comfortable, but the usual inability to get that final double again proved our downfall. Even captain Terry Evans' magnificent finish could not save the match. This (Friday) evening we are away to the Woodlands - participating members please note. Annual Scalextric ChampionshipThe long-awaited challenge is upon us. This prestigious event takes place tomorrow (Saturday) evening, commencing at 8 p.m. sharp. Unfortunately, last year's champion, Roy Lawrence, will not be present to defend his title. The door is open you budding Schumachers to show off your 'driving skills'. Organiser and chief marshal, Ed Dashfield, informs me that the format will be the same as last year, with a few minor adjustments. If previous years are to go by, the evening promises to be a lot of fun, so why not while away a few hours pitting your wits against fellow protagonists. To cater for the ravenous amongst you there will be a curry available, skilfully prepared by Paul Evenden. Sea SafetyOn Saturday, January 29th, commencing at 7 p.m., the H.M. Coastguard and R.N.L.I. Sea Safety Department will be giving a talk on GMDSS/DSC Radio, including hands-on practice. Also included will be advice on lifejackets, flares and general safety equipment. If you go boating, you should make an effort to attend. Safety at sea is paramount, irrespective of the type of boat you use. Make a note in your diaries now! St. Valentine's SupperThis annual culinary experience takes place on Saturday, February 12th. Mike Stace and Deanna Morton are again in the hot seat. If last year's evening is anything to go by we are in for a treat - numbers are limited, so please let Mike and Deanna know as soon as possible if you intend to participate. You can contact Mike or Deanna on 844484. Other Dates
Other activities are in the pipeline which will include, for example, a quiz with a particular theme - watch this space! SubscriptionsIt's that time of year again - annual subscriptions are now due. Please contact membership secretary, Julia Dashfield, on 844918, for further details. You will find a subscription form amongst these pages. This is a very friendly and welcoming club which endeavours to involve all members in a variety of activities. If you would like to participate by joining, then now is an ideal time. Contact any members who will be delighted to furnish you with further details. GP14 |
