Tenby Sailing Club Race Results.

Friday 23rd May 2003

Conditions were such that club sailing was cancelled on Sunday. However, Tommy D'Ortez did take part in a CYRC event held at Saundersfoot. Several sailors from various parts of Wales took part taking on the conditions with some confidence. Tommy fared very well, being the first of the regional entry and fifth overall, the first four being members of the National Squad. Well done Tommy, it won't be long before you get you Welsh 'call-up'!

Cruiser sailing did take place on Sunday evening with the usual protagonists taking part. The original course of North Highcliff, Eel Point, North Highcliff and home was curtailed to North Highlcliff and home due to the increasing force of the wind.

The final 1-2-3 was: 1. John Griffiths in Tejeda; 2. Rolly Squibbs in Sapphire; 3. Blake Shaw in Slipstream.

The adult 'have a go' evenings attracted an interest when on Wednesday and Friday the conditions were ideal for the trainees. Unfortunately, Thursday's and Saturday's sessions were cancelled due to adverse conditions. However, all agreed the venture had been worthwhile, with the trainees eager to continue.

The club's sailing calendar is fairly full, but there may be windows of opportunity for further training sessions. If and when these opportunities arise I will let all who are interested know via this article - watch this space.

The weather on Saturday abated sufficiently to enable the scheduled BBQ to take place. Members and friends were treated to a superb feast by resident BBQ guru Terry Evans.

This weekend the club is hosting a prestigious rowing event when teams of rowers from near and far will descend on Tenby. This promises to be a spectacular event with a large number of entries expected. The club is honoured to host this event which, again, is a testimony to the club's reputation for running maritime events.

Obviously the club's reputation as a BBQ centre is known far and wide as the rowers and friends have requested a BBQ. With Terry away, the mantle of head chef falls on Mike Stace and Deanna Morton who also have a reputation for their culinary skills. As well as the evening BBQ, the galley crew, headed by the ever-enthusiastic Julia Dashfield, will be present throughout the weekend making sure the rowers are at least satisfied from within. More on this event next week.

Looking further ahead, the club is holding an open meeting for the junior section of the population. This will take place on the evening of Saturday, May 31, when, hopefully, prospective sailors and their parents will take the opportunity to find our more about sailing. For further details contact Blake Shaw on 812535.

Finally, a reminder to members and friends that club steward, Howard Ball, is catering on Fridays and Saturdays when there is no special function on. He looks forward to feeding you.
