No sailing on a formal basis last Sunday as many members took part in the 'cruise in company'. All gathered at 10 a.m., well almost, and the flotilla of cruisers, ribs and one dinghy set forth to the picturesque Skrinkle Bay. Helms Terry Evans and Mark Dashfield acted as safety and ferry boats, which was much appreciated by all. Once on Skrinkle, the barbecues were soon in full flow, with Barbecue King Terry Evans seemingly feeding the '5000' with steaks, tuna steaks, mackerel and bass, which was much appreciated by the recipients. Helen Williams's barbecue was also much appreciated, with several delicacies on offer. All in all, the cuisine was deemed to be most definitely 'up to standard'. Whilst on Skrinkle two anniversaries were celebrated. Congratulations to Mark and Julia Dashfield on a prestigious wedding anniversary, as well as to Peter and Alison Hicks, who celebrated their second anniversary. New members, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Evenden, impressed all by sailing their Wayfarer to Skrinkle - no mean feat. Well done, not many newcomers to the sport can boast such an achievement. Racing as usual this Sunday - members please note. Sad news: Howard is away on holiday, so catering is curtailed for the next two weeks. However, Terry Evans's barbecue will take place on Wednesday, irrespective of weather conditions. In fact, Terry is also on holiday, so Karen Morris is at the helm - Terry is extremely grateful for Karen's culinary skills. The next major sailing event is the Firefly National Championships. This is a prestigious event which is demanding on key members' time. If any member can lend a hand during the week of August 7th to the13th, please contact Mike Stace on 844484 or Blake Shaw on 842535. Your help will be much appreciated. GP14 |
