The draw for the Christmas Hamper took place on Saturday 18th December 2004 and raised an impressive £260. The winner, Helen Williams (joint winner with Dave Bowen) is seen here presented with the Hamper by Mike Stace, T.S.C. Commodore. Also present was Bob Wilcox who won the third prize: a boxed bottle of port. Many Thanks to all Club Members, Committee and supporters, especially Matt and Ruth at New Hedges MiniMarket, for their generous donations to the Hamper. Without your support the draw could not happen. |

The final Frostbite race took place on Sunday. Unfortunately. I do not have the results to hand. More next week. The final race of the season will take place on Boxing Day - let us hope for calmer conditions than last year. The president of the divine GP14 appreciation society has expressed concern of the apparent demise of the blessed vessel. Fear not - the divine GP14 is alive and well. It is undergoing a major refit which will be completed by next season. Meanwhile, on the Haven, the final set of races were being contested. In Division Two, Daniel Jackson, in yacht Artful Dodger, came second, which meant he took the Division Two title. Apart from one eventful morning playing 'touch rugby' with the ferry, Daniel did not have a result worse than second throughout. Congratulations to Daniel and his crew for a fine effort! In Division Three, the final positions were not decided until this race. The Tenby contingent fared very well, with Billy Stubbs, in yacht Amphora, and Blake Shaw, in yacht Slipstream, coming second and fourth, respectively, which also meant their final positions were second and fourth, respectively. Congratulations to Billy, Blake and their crews for another superb winter series. DartsBack to normal - we lost yet again. All the games were keenly contested, with our nemesis again being the inability to get the final double. Highlights of the evening were Dave Balshaw's spectacular win and captain Terry Evans's gargantuan effort in winning the masters competition. The next game is away to the Three Mariners on January 7th. Participating members please note. Annual Christmas CarveryWhat a feast! All who attended were treated to superb Christmas fare, which certainly was a great start to the festive season. Events such as this does not happen overnight - many thanks to the 'team' for all their efforts in making the evening a success. I'm delighted to announce that the winner of the Christmas hamper was Dave Bowen. Again, thanks to Julia Dashfield for preparing the hamper. Boxing Day SwimThe club will be open as usual before, during and after the Boxing Day Swim. Also the final race of the season will take place - let us hope the weather is kind to us this year. The usual Boxing Day draw will take place - the first prize is a must! (Teddy bear connoisseurs please note). Come and visit us on Boxing Day - you've got to be in it to win it! Sea SafetyOn Saturday, January 29th, commencing at 7 p.m., the H.M. Coastguard and R.N.L.I. Sea Safety Department will be giving a talk on GMDSS/DSC Radio, (including hands-on practice). Also included will be advice on life-jackets, flares and general safety equipment. If you go boating, you should make an effort to attend. Safety at sea is paramount, irrespective of the type of boat you use. Make a note in your diaries now! Other Dates
Other activities are in the pipeline which will include, for example, a quiz with a particular theme - watch this space! SubscriptionsIt's almost that time of year again. Annual subscriptions are due on January 1st, 2005 - as in previous years members who wish to pay their subscriptions early will be given a discount voucher. Please contact membership secretary, Julia Dashfield, on 844918, for further details. This is a very friendly and welcoming club which endeavours to involve all members in a variety of activities. If you would like to participate by joining, then now is an ideal time. Contact any members who will be delighted to furnish you with further details. In last week's article I inadvertently credited the photograph to RS400. It should have been credited to Steve Davie. Many apologies! Finally, may I, on behalf of the club, wish you all a merry Christmas and a happy and prosperous New Year. GP14 |
