Last week I wrote about the opportunities for the younger section of society to learn to sail. I'm delighted to report that the club is acquiring two new Feva dinghies in readiness for the new season. These boats, designed for two people, are ideal for learners and will allow our more promising youngsters to further their skills. DartsThe inaugural Club Darts Championship was very well attended, which bodes well for the future. The standard of darts was, to say the least, variable. Captain, Terry, was brushed aside by Stuart, who threw some outstanding darts. Other games took slightly longer, with several outcomes dwelling on double one. One by one the pre-tournament favourites were eliminated, leading to a final between Colin and surprise of the evening, vice-commodore Daniel. The final was a 'tense' affair, with both players squandering chances. Eventually, after three games, Daniel got the elusive double to take the coveted crown. Congratulations to Daniel who will be included in the squad, work commitments permitting. The evening was thoroughly enjoyed by all present and we look forward to the next internal competition. This evening, we are away to league leaders, Tenby Rugby Club. Commodore, Mike Stace, will take on the captain's role in the absence of Terry Evans - participating members please note. Blues EveningWhat a superb evening. The inaugural jam session proved very popular, with an excellent turnout of very talented, local musicians eager to play the blues. They combined excellently using a variety of instruments which thrilled the appreciative audience. For a jam session, the standard of musicianship was impressive, as were the vocal contributions made by several of the participants. Such was the success of the evening that another session is planned next month - watch this space. Many thanks to Bruce Campbell and Terry Evans for co-ordinating the evening. Tsunami AppealThis (Friday) evening the club is delighted to host Greenhill School's quiz in aid of the Tsunami Appeal. This is a most worthy cause which deserves your support, so why not come down and be quizzed in warm and convivial surroundings - all are welcome. Great Steak EveningThe eagerly-awaited steak evening takes place tomorrow (Saturday) evening. Terry Evans will be chef for the evening when he will prepare his legendary steaks for the ravenous masses. If you intend to participate, please contact Terry on 844256 - he needs to know numbers for ordering purposes. There will be fish as the vegetarian alternative. An evening not to be missed - he looks forward to feeding you. Jazz EveningOn Saturday, March 5th, the talented Greenhill Jazz band will again entertain us. This is always a popular event when the pupils of Greenhill will demonstrate their skills on the musical front. These young musicians give so freely of their time and deserve our support, so why not while away an evening listening to pleasant music in the best watering hole in town. There will also be food available for the peckish amongst you. Other Dates
Other activities are in the pipeline which will include, for example, a quiz with a particular theme, a games evening - watch this space!
