Tenby Sailing Club Race Results.

Friday 25th April 2003

Many thanks to Redwing for standing in for me last week, much appreciated!

The weekend's sailing was called off due to a strong north-easterly and an extremely heavy sea. This was a huge disappointment to the eager and regular participants in our annual Open Regatta but, as always, safety was paramount.

However some sailing did take place on Monday in the form of a cruiser 'shake-down' when the helms and crews shape up for the new season. Conditions could not have been better, which enabled all concerned to regain their sea legs after a long winter recess.

A new member of the cruiser fraternity was Rolly Squibbs in his recent aquisition, Saphire. Judging by its performance on Monday, the regular cruiser helms had better watch out.

Sailing as usual this Sunday, gathering at 10 am for a 11 am prompt start.

Looking ahead to May, the club has a very busy month both on the sailing and social scene. On the weekend of May 10/11, the club hosts the World Laser Qualifier. This is a prestigious event which is a testimony to the club's race management team. A large number of highly motivated and skilful Laser sailors will be descending on Tenby for a qualifying round of the World Championships. This promises to be a very busy weekend demanding the time and effort of several club members. If anyone can lend a hand, please contact Rolly Squibbs on 842170.

The following week, commencing on the evening of May 16, for four evenings, the club is holding its annual 'Come and Try' event, primarily for adults. If anyone is interested in having a go, please contact Blake Shaw , on 842535 or Rolly Squibbs on 842170, for further details. We look forward to meeting you.

During any event the welfare of the competitors, race committee and safety personnel is important, especially the inner-man. Even though sailing did not take place last weekend, the competitors and club personnel were treated to excellent wholesome food, which slightly compensated for the lack of sailing.

Many thanks to Julia Dashfield and her entourage for keeping us all 'well fed and happy'. The galley side of any event is important - if any member can offer a hand during these championships or regattas, please contact Terry Evans on 844256 or Julia Dashfield on 844918. Many thanks in anticipation.

On the social scene, life goes on. The Mexican evening was a great success, with members extolling tbe taste of the various Mexican tit-bits prepared by Ruth Tebbutt. Many thanks to Ruth, whose culinary skills are very much appreciated by all.

Whilst on food, our club steward, Howard Ball, is back and will be catering on Friday and Saturday evenings. This will delight the Friday diners - good news, Howard is catering this evening!

DARTS

The final game of the season, will be recorded in the annals of history - we won! Many thanks to all who have given so much over the season - without your continued support we could not have climbed off the foot of the table!

EASTER CARVERY

Bookings are now being taken for the annual Easter Carvery on May 3. This is always a popular event, so book now to reserve a table. Contact Blake Shaw on 842535 for further information.

BBQ

Last Saturday's BBQ, first of the season, was well attended, with several returning to chef, Terry Evans, for seconds. Many thanks to Terry for all his effort - he will be putting on his regular Wednesday BBQ in conjunction with the sail training once the weather settles a little. There is also a BBQ on the evening of Saturday, May 19 - the final evening of the 'Come and Try' series.

Finally, on an administrative note, the newsletters and diaries have now been distributed - if any member has not received the above literature, please contact membership secretary, Sheila Spiller, on 812325.
