Another large turnout on Sunday enjoyed somewhat different conditions to last week. The avid fans of the Divine GPl4 will be disappointed by the fact it did not participate - its helm was supporting Tesco's Race for Life in which some club members were participating. I digress - the race was keenly contested with only seconds separating first and second. The final positions were: 1. Mike Stace and Deanna Morton (Redwing); 2. Steve and Matt Davie (Laser 2000); 3. Rolly Squibbs and Helen Williams (Redwing). Wednesday evening is becoming increasingly popular, with a plethora of eager trainees being put through their paces by the equally keen instructors. I believe a points race took place after the training session, but unfortunately I do not have the results to hand. Monday saw Blake Shaw and Terry Evans taking to the water to instruct the enthusiastic band of junior trainees who recently took part in the Pembrokeshire Watesports beginners' course. It was very pleasing to observe the improvement in their techniques and hopefully they will soon be ready to join the Wednesday throng. Would parents please note that the next session is on Thursday, July 1st, gathering at the usual time. Racing as usual this Sunday and Wednesday. Looking ahead, on the weekend of July 3rd and 4th, the club's annual regatta takes place which includes the spectacular Round Caldey Race on the Sunday. More on this later. Social SceneThe social scene continues to flourish. Terry Evans's Wednesday barbecues are such that some members travel miles for the culinary treat. Long may they continue. While on a gourmet theme, Howard Ball's 'a la carte' menu is also proving increasingly popular, with members being treated to a variety of meals, including a superb curry and steak and ale pie. What more could one ask on a Friday evening? Good food in superb surroundings! Jazz BandTomorrow (Saturday) sees the eagerly awaited return of the talented Greenhill Jazz Band. Members so enjoyed their last visit that they 'demanded' a return visit as soon as possible. They hope to start at around 8.15 p.m. Please support these talented teenagers who so freely give of their time. Leader, Neil Martin, tells me that they hope to include some new pieces - sounds good to me. There will be food available, so why not enjoy good wholesome grub with superb music - we look forward to meeting you. GP14 |
