Considering Sunday's racing followed the annual dinner-dance, the turnout was most encouraging indeed, with one of the highest numbers recorded in a winter series event. As last week, the racing was very close, with the final 1-2-3 being: 1. Ted Lewis in a Phantom; 2. Mike Stace and Deanna Morton in a Redwing; 3. Nick Berridge in a Phantom. Racing also took place on the Haven in gusty conditions. With wind on the nose and a strong opposing tide, local knowledge certainly played its part in the helms' strategies. Some did not quite get it right, thereby playing catch up for most of the race. I understand the Tenby contigent had mixed fortunes. Unfortunately, I do not have the results to hand - a report will follow next week. Annual General MeetingThe club annual general meeting was very well attended and this reflects the enthusiasm and commitment of members. In his address, the Commodore, Mike Stace, thanked all for their continued support and hard work over the year. He was delighted to report a very successful year, both on and off the water. The dinghy sailing was proving very successful, both at senior and junior level. This was borne out by the fact that, over the year, a record number of boats had taken to the water. We had a series of very successful events, including the Firefly national championship - again the club was commended for its expertise on race management. He stressed the team spirit in the club and looked forward to another very successful year, with even more members entering into this ethos of teamwork, for which the club is renowned. In his response, the Vice-Commodore, Daniel Jackson, thanked the commodore for all his efforts and urged members to continue supporting the club, both on and off the water. He, like the commodore, was delighted with the steadily increasing numbers of members taking to the water - long may it continue. After these addresses, the new committee was formed, with the following officers being returned.
Steve Davie is the only change to last year's committee. A healthy, constructive, lively debate followed, which resulted in some changes to the subscription categories and some minor constitutional changes. Details will be included in the next newsletter. All agreed that the evening had been a very positive experience which reflected the camaraderie which exists within the club. Annual Dinner and Prize-GivingThis was an extremely successful evening! There is a picture of the prize winners above. A full report will appear next week. DartsThe standard of darts shown in last week's practice session did not inspire captain Terry Evans. Nil desperandum! We are at home this evening - participating members please note. Terry is away this evening, but expects a result - Commodore Mike Stace has agreed to rally the troops. Howard's backGreat news! Club steward, Howard Ball, has agreed to put on his 'A La Carte' menu tomorrow (Saturday) evening - please support Howard as you have done in recent weeks. The needs of the club's ravenous have been recognised. Other dates
As mentioned previously, a newsletter is due to be circulated soon - if any member has any novel idea which could be included in the social programme, please contact Terry Evans on 844256. The talented Greenhill Jazz Band, the Great Scalextric Race, St. Valentine's Supper are just some of the attractions for the new year. GP14 |
