Unfortunately, adverse weather meant that conditions were unsuitable for safe sailing last Wednesday and Sunday. Saturday, however, saw a large section of the cruising fraternity take to the water, including Mike Stace's recent acquisition, 'Sibling'. The course was set using Monkstone, DZ2, Giltar as marks, all to starboard. The wind was light at the start which meant some of the cruisers, more suited to stronger conditions, could not make the headway of the lighter boats. After some close encounters, the final 1-2-3 was: 1. Ted Lewis in his Hawk; 2. John Griffiths in Tejeda; 3. Rolly Squibbs in Sapphire. Sailing as normal this Sunday and Wednesday, conditions permitting. The social scene continues to flourish, with Terry Evans' legendary barbecues drawing the ravenous masses from afar and wide. His Wednesday barbecues will continue until at least mid-September, weather permitting. Howard Ball's culinary skills continue to satisfy members. Howard will continue to at least the end of September, depending on demand. Watch this space for the imminent autumn social programme. GP14 |
