Tenby Sailing Club Race Results.

Friday 28th November 2003

As last week a large turnout enjoyed favourable conditions - a force two, north-easterly. Race officers Jonathan Lewis and Rhys Thomas laid a course which tested the skill of both helm and crew, With close tussles at the early marks, it was always going to be tight at the finish, the pole positions being:

          1. Rolly Squibbs and Dan Lewis in a Redwing; 2. Alan Lambert in a Solo; 3. Angelo Fecci in a Topper.

It's always pleasing to see a variety of boats on the water and Angelo pushing the 'senior' sailors. More of the same next week!

Meanwhile, on the Haven, in very light conditions, the usual cruising fraternity were locked in battle. Again the Tenby contingent fared very well, with Daniel Jackson finishing first in division two in yacht Enigma, while Billy Stubbs finished fourth in division three in yacht Amphora, with Mark Dashfield finishing sixth in yacht Slipstream.

As mentioned last week, the club annual dinner and prize-giving was a great success. The main bulk of the cups and trophies were won by Mike Stace this year, with Dianna Morton picking up best crew. Amongst other prize winners were Rolly Squibbs and John Griffiths, Rolly for both cruisers and dinghies. All agreed the year had been very successful and hoped next year would be even better.

Last Saturday, the club held its annual general meeting. I will report fully on this important event next week, but I feel I must mention that John Griffiths and Neville Stace were both made life members for their long and outstanding service to the club. Congratulations gentlemen.

There has been an enforced change of plan to the social scene. The scheduled Poems and Pints evening has had to be postponed due to unforeseen circumstances. In its place will be a quiz with a seasonal flavour, accompanied by food for the ravenous amongst you. The usual sailing club 'à la carte' is on offer - for example, lamb and leek curry. What more could you want?

Whilst on food, don't forget the Christmas carvery on Saturday, December 20th. Reservations are already being taken, so avoid disappointment by booking now. Contact Blake Shaw on 842535 for further details.

The junior members will have an opportunity to 'chill out' at their annual party and prize-giving which takes place at the club on Friday, December 12th. Members please note!

Guess what? We won! The celebrations are still continuing. Already we have won more matches this year than the last two years put together. However, complacency could set in when we play away to the Cross Inn, Penally, this evening.

I urge participating members to come down off their cloud and concentrate on this evening's task!

Would members please note that the club will be open at 8.30 p.m. this evening and as usual tomorrow evening.

Finally, anyone interested in joining this vibrant club should contact any member for further details. We look forward to meeting you.
