As mentioned in the last two articles, the winter break means no sailing, but there's plenty happening on shore. Essential maintenance work is taking place, which includes boat refurbishment, checking of ground tackle, marks etc. All this takes time and effort. If any member is able to lend a hand, please contact Rolly Squibbs on 842170 or Mike Stace on 844484. Many thanks in anticipation. Scalextric ChallengeWhat an evening! The standard of the competitors was extremely high, with the eventual finalists showing why they had reached the grand final. The qualifying rounds consisted of a five-minute warm-up race, followed by 15 minutes of extreme concentration where four budding formula one drivers competed on a four-track figure of eight with all the trimmings. The grand final comprised of the four who had successfully completed the greatest number of laps, the fourth place being secured by a 'play-off'. The four finalists were Daniel Jackson, Roy Lawrence, John Ball and Andy Rylands. The standard was awesome, with all four initially matching lap for lap. However, as the race progressed, the single-minded concentration of Roy Lawrence paid dividends; he won by a convincing margin. Well done Roy, there will definitely be another evening when you will have to defend your crown. An evening such as this cannot happen overnight! A huge thank you to the Dashfield clan of Mark, Julia, Rhiannon and Ed for putting on a superb show. It was a very professional effort which thoroughly deserves the highest accolades. Many thanks also to Julia's effort on the culinary front, a much appreciated gesture! The next Dashfield show is the Great Jigsaw Race on Saturday, March 13th. If last year's event is anything to go by, it will be a superb evening. St. Valentine's SupperThis takes place on Saturday, February 14th. Please contact Mike Stace on 844484 to make a reservation. Reservations seem to be on a par with last year, so book early to avoid disappointment. Mike and Deanna always produce delicious fare - we look forward to the evening with mouth-watering expectation. DartsWe won, without throwing a dart in anger! When we got to the venue it was all ill darkness and deserted, somewhat reminiscent of the Marie Celeste. The team trekked back to the club where essential practice took place in readiness for this evening's battle at home to the Woodridge. SubscriptionsAnnual subscriptions are now due.
