Instructions for Downloading Web Pages.

Storing Tenby Sailing Club Web Pages.

Some pages are updated regularly. In particular, GP14's newspaper reports are updated weekly and the Secretary's Newsletter is produced several times each year. If you wish to archive this material, this is what you should do:

Create a Folder or Directory where all the pages will be stored. I suggest that you call it 'Tenby Sailing Club'. You may want to create a sub-folder called 'Web Pages'. The important thing is that YOU know where they are kept!

Weekly Newspaper Report:

The page must be saved with TWO names so that it can be accessed at a later date. The latest page is always called results.htm, so saving the latest deletes the earlier page.

  1. Find the current page on the website.

  2. In your web browser, click VIEW, then at the bottom of the drop-down menu, click SOURCE.

  3. Make sure that the application that you use to view the Source Code is NOTEPAD. Anything else will cause problems; a really primitive, no frills wordprocessor is required, and NOTEPAD is best. (You will find it in PROGRAMS - ACCESSORIES if you click the START button.)

  4. When you see the coding for the webpage in NOTEPAD, click FILE, then SAVE AS...

  5. In the bottom box, 'SAVE AS TYPE', set as 'ALL FILES (*.*)'. Do NOT leave it at the default 'Text Documents'.

  6. Name the file as rDDMMYY.htm , where DDMMYY is the date of the report. (The report for Friday 4th July 2003 should be named r040703.htm)

  7. In the top 'SAVE IN' box, select the place where you keep your pages.

  8. Click the SAVE button.

  9. Repeat the process, but this time save the report with the name results.htm

The Secretary's Newsletter:

The process is similar, but it shoud be saved, like the results page, with TWO NAMES so that old newsletters can be accessed. The names should be:

  1. nlMMYY.htm , where MMYY is the date of the report, month and year only. (The news letter for April 2003 would be called nl0403.htm)

  2. newsltr.htm

Other Pages:

If any other new pages need to be saved, use the same process, but use the name that comes with the page.

To save a picture, move your cursor over the picture and RIGHT CLICK your mouse. In the drop down menu that appears, select 'SAVE PICTURE AS...' Do not alter the name, but make sure that you place the picture in the same folder as your other Tenby Sailing Club files.

A complete set of web pages are available on CD ROM from the Secretary, or Philip Wathen, who can be contacted on 01834 844668.
