National Championships

Tenby Sailing Club has a rich history of hosting National Dinghy Championships, having proudly done so for nearly 40 years. Each year, we welcome at least one major class of dinghy to our venue, with the RS Aero 5 & 7 (2023), Merlin Rockets (2024), and GP14 (2025) already fully booked up until 2029.

We are honoured that so many prestigious classes choose to compete at Tenby Sailing Club, and many have expressed an interest in returning to this superb venue. Past championships have included Fireflies, RS400s, Fireballs, Scorpions, RS800s, Toppers, National 12s, Redwings, and Ospreys, all of which have been impressed by our excellent facilities, picturesque location, and the superb race area in sheltered Carmarthen Bay.

At Tenby Sailing Club, we are committed to continuing our tradition of hosting top-class National Dinghy Championships and providing a fantastic experience for sailors and spectators alike.

Tenby is a very popular holiday resort in West Wales in the Pembrokeshire National Park, offering an excellent range of accommodation. Early booking is advised to get a place near the harbour. Typical journey time from the Severn Bridge is less than 2 hours with dual carriageway to within 15 miles of Tenby.

Our Clubhouse offers a range of facilities, including a well-stocked bar and catering service, changing rooms, showers, storage, ensuring that sailors have everything they need to enjoy their time on the water.

Families and supporters will also find plenty to do, with easy access to the harbour beach, Castle Hill, and the Club balcony, all of which offer great views of the action on the water.

Overall, Tenby Sailing Club offers a complete sailing experience, with excellent facilities and a location that provides easy access to everything that the town has to offer.

Tenby Sailing Club's race area is located in the sheltered Carmarthen Bay, just off the North Bay side of Tenby. With easy access from the club, sailors can reach the race area within minutes, allowing for more time on the water.

The club's location also offers an excellent launching point for sailors, with a hard sandy beach that extends right down to low water, making launching possible at all states of the tide.

Courses are carefully laid out to minimize the effects of wind shifts caused by the land mass and cliffs, ensuring that sailors can enjoy fair and challenging racing conditions. The club also schedules its events to coincide with neap tides, making it easier for sailors to navigate the challenging conditions that can arise during spring tides.

Overall, Tenby Sailing Club offers an excellent sailing experience, with a well-designed race area and a location that provides easy access to some of the best sailing conditions in the UK.
